An important alert for prospective skilled migration applicants.

From 1 July 2014, the Department of Immigration and Border Protection will be introducing a skill assessment validity period. Previously skill assessments did not expire for the purpose of visa applications. The change is introduced to ensure that applicants meet current or recent skill assessment criteria.

The default skill assessment validity will be three years, or shorter if a validity period is specified by the skill assessment authority.

It is not yet clear whether the change will apply to applicants who have been issued with invitations to apply for skilled visas, but who have not made their visa application by 1 July 2014. If you have been issued with an invitation to apply for a skilled visa, and your skill assessment will be more than three years old as at 1 July 2014, it is advised that you should consider lodging your visa application with priority. Of course, it is important to ensure that all other application requirements are in place before you proceed with lodgement including IELTS tests, etc.

Please do not hesitate to contact us if you would like some assistance in skilled migration matters.
