The Department of Immigration will now begin accepting applications for Work and Holiday visas (Subclass 462) from Chinese citizens. This will allow eligible Chinese citizens the chance to work and visit Australia for up to 12 months. This visa is designed for applicants between the ages of 18 and 30 years (must not have turned 31) who meet specific education and English language requirements. For all applicants, the minimum English language requirement is ‘Functional English’.
Applicants from China must:
- Hold a valid passport issues by the People’s Republic of China
- Holders of this passport are not required to provide evidence of Government support for the grant of the visa
- Chinese applications cannot be lodged by post
- Application must be made by appointment and in person at one of the the three addresses provided in the Instrument in either Beijing, Guangzhou or Shanghai
Work and Holiday visa holders can undertake employment in Australia but cannot work for more than six months (cumulatively) for any one employer.
